Accountability Court Quetta on Tuesday convicted former secretary finance, Mushtaq Raisani, and former finance adviser Khalid Langove in the Balochistan mega corruption scandal.
The court convicted Mushtaq Raisani for 10 years imprisonment and transfer of his properties to the government. Judge of the Accountability Court Munawar Shahwani announced the judgment.
The court also convicted Khalid Langove for 26 months imprisonment in the mega corruption scandal. Sources in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) say the volume of the corruption in the mega scandal was over Rs. 2 billion. Both the accused declared disqualified for any public office for a period of 10 years, Spokesman NAB said after the judgment.
The court also ordered the confiscation of domestic, foreign currencies, jewellery, prize bonds, movable and immovable properties recovered from Mushtaq Raisani.
Law enforcement agencies recovered PKR 650 million in cash and jewellery in a raid conducted at Raisani’s residence in May 2016. The authorities uncovered evidence indicating the former secretary of finance owned multiple residential properties in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi.
Khalid Langove tendered resignation. NAB officials arrested Mr. Langove on the premises of the Balochistan High Court after the cancellation of bail on May 25, 2016. Mr. Langove through his counsel had filed an application seeking bail before arrest from the court. He was shifted to the regional headquarter of the anti-corruption bureau.
