Two Iranian police officers were killed and another was injured in an ambush on a police patrol along the Bampour–Iranshahr road in Western (Iran-administered) Balochistan on Monday morning, according to Iranian media.
The officers killed were identified as Second Lieutenant Amirhossein Qasemi and First Sergeant Nezam Dastgoshadeh, while the injured officer was taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
The patrol belonged to Nokjo Police Station under the Bampour County Police Command, the reports said.
The People’s Fighters Front (PFF), an alliance of armed groups including Jaish-ul-Adl, claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a statement, the group said its fighters targeted two Toyota Hilux vehicles and an armoured Land Cruiser, claiming that all occupants of one of the Hilux vehicles were killed. It did not specify how many personnel were in the vehicle.
Iranian media reported that the attackers fled towards surrounding rural areas, while Iranian forces launched a search operation following the ambush.
The attack follows the death of Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi in a separate operation in Saravan. Iranian military officials confirmed his death, describing the operation as part of counterterrorism efforts.
