The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) said its fighters carried out four operations in Pasni, Khuzdar, Noshki and Kharan between 25 and 30 August, claiming that two Pakistani military personnel and four alleged “death squad” members were killed and several others injured.

In a statement issued on 31 August, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said fighters planted an improvised explosive device inside a Pakistani military post at Dokani Cross in the Shadi Kour area of Pasni.

“The fighters had planted the bomb inside the military post. As soldiers entered the post, the bomb detonated, killing one soldier on the spot and injuring another,” Gwahram Baloch said.

Two days earlier, BLF fighters simultaneously attacked three camps belonging to alleged “death squad” leader Shafiq Mengal in the Tutak area of Khuzdar, according to the statement.

The BLF spokesperson claimed that four alleged “death squad” members present at the camps were killed, while another was “captured alive” and remained in the group’s custody for interrogation.

Referring to one of the sites targeted in the operation, he added: “This camp is the same centre and torture cell from which the bodies of 170 forcibly disappeared Baloch people were recovered in mass graves in 2014.”

On 27 August, BLF fighters carried out a sniper attack on a Pakistani military checkpoint at Lagar Koh in the Kuchkki area of Noshki, killing one soldier, the statement said.

The group also claimed responsibility for a hand-grenade attack on the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Rakhshan region in central Kharan on 25 August.

Pakistani authorities had not commented on the BLF’s claims at the time of publication.
