The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed that 62 members of the Pakistan military, including three officers, were killed during a coordinated attack in Mastung district on 16 July 2026.
In a statement issued to the media, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said that the group’s elite Fateh Squad, alongside other units, carried out a series of coordinated attacks on a military convoy, its security escorts and reinforcements in the Khadkucha area of Mastung.
According to the statement, the operation targeted a convoy travelling from Quetta to Panjgur. The BLA claimed the convoy consisted of 18 buses and dozens of security vehicles, carrying more than 550 armed personnel from various military formations, including the 91 Wing, 164 Wing, 59 Wing, Panjgur Rifles, Makran Scouts and Dasht Scouts.
The group said the attack began at around midday when its fighters ambushed the convoy at a location identified as Guro, allegedly acting on prior intelligence gathered through what it referred to as the “ZIRAB” network.
The BLA claimed that its fighters struck the front section of the convoy and its escort vehicles with automatic and heavy weapons. According to the statement, four military buses were directly hit, one of which caught fire and was completely destroyed. The group further alleged that a vehicle carrying senior military officers was targeted and destroyed, resulting in the deaths of three officers.
The statement added that other BLA units simultaneously engaged security vehicles and blocked attempts by military reinforcements from nearby camps to reach the area. The group claimed that additional ambushes were carried out at two separate locations, leading to prolonged fighting.
The BLA further alleged that, following the initial attack, Pakistani forces deployed gunship helicopters, fighter aircraft, drones and other aerial assets in an attempt to regain control of the area. According to the group, clashes continued for two days.
The organisation also claimed that aerial bombardment affected public locations, including a mosque and religious seminaries, while asserting that none of its fighters were killed or injured during the operation.
Pakistani military authorities had not publicly commented on the group’s latest claims at the time of reporting.
The statement concluded with the BLA reiterating its commitment to continuing armed operations until what it described as its objective of national independence is achieved.
