An explosion occurred on Sultan Ibrahim Road in Khuzdar district of Balochistan on Friday, resulting in the death of a journalist and injuries to nine others. The blast was reportedly caused by a magnetic IED.
Muhammad Siddique Mengal, a leader of a religious party, JUI-F and the president of the Khuzdar Press Club was killed in the blast. Mengal was killed while on his way to the university from his home. The incident has prompted an investigation by local authorities.
It wasn’t the first attack on Mengal. In August last year he was attacked by unknown motorcyclists on Khatan bridge in Khuzdar, but he remained safe.
This recent explosion is part of a series of bombings in Khuzdar. On Tuesday, Pakistani Paramilitary forces’ camp was attacked and a police vehicle rushing to the scene was struck by a separate explosion, resulting in injuries to several cops, including Maqbool Ahmed Mosyani, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Khuzdar’s in-charge. Just weeks prior, an explosion injured several individuals, and another blast earlier in April caused two fatalities and multiple injuries at Umar Farooq Chowk, a central business area of the city.
