People are reportedly protesting in large numbers against abductions, extrajudicial killings, and other “injustices” caused by the Iranian authorities.

It is the 35th week since the protests began in Western Balochistan’s central city, Zehadan. Local sources have noticed an increase in the intensity of the demonstrations since September 2022.

The recent protest started at the Makki Masjid where people chanted slogans against the “injustices” perpetrated by the Iranian state. The protestors held placards and demanded the safe release of missing persons who were allegedly picked by the Iranian forces.

Similarly, Moulana Abdul Hameed Ismailzai, leader of the Sunni clerics, said during the Friday sermon that religious leaders don’t need government funds and can survive without them.

He added that the clerics should not accept the government’s coercion and remain self-directed in what they do.

It must be remembered that Moulana Abdul Hameed and other clerics are among the staunchest critics of the state.

Some among them, including Moulana Abdul Aziz and Moulana Abdul Majid, have been forced to live in exile due to their criticism of the Iranian state.
