A woman was killed in the name of ‘honor’ in Barkhan district of Balochistan on Thursday.
According to reports, the 35-year-old victim of the incident had two children, a daughter, and a son. The brother of the victim has reportedly rejected the statement of honor killing and titled it as an allegation against the woman. The heirs and brother of the victim have told that the victim was beaten and injured by her husband named Babu.
The deceased’s brother says that “Babu wanted to have a second marriage, which my sister was not allowing him to, and my sister is innocent and brutally killed by her husband.” In this regard, attempts have been made to contact Deputy Tehsildar Barkhan Haji Karim Bakhsh several times, but no response has come out from his side, the victim’s brother added
It is to be mentioned that such incidents are rampant in the Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan. Pakistan has the highest number of estimated and documented honor killings per capita in the world – about one-fifth of the world’s honor killings are performed there.
The rate of honor killings is considerably lower in Balochistan in comparison to other parts of the region, but the figure is still high, especially in district Naseerabad. The rights groups have demanded that the government must investigate such killings thoroughly and prosecute the culprits.
