According to media reports, numerous unidentified and putrefied dead bodies were found on the roof of the Nishtar Hospital, which is a teaching hospital of Nishtar Medical University in Multan (Punjab) on Friday after a government official forced the hospital’s administration to open the gate to the roof. The dead bodies were found dumped in inhumane conditions.

A Video circulating on social media shows several rotten dead bodies lying on the roof in a very bad condition, which were to be used as fodder for the medical students, hospital sources confirmed.

Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has taken notice of the incident, meanwhile, a six-member committee by the Punjab government and another three-member committee by the Nishtar Medical University’s vice-chancellor were formed to probe into the incident.

Moreover, HOD stated that the dead bodies have been given to them by the local police, claimed to be unidentified, for post-mortem examination and if required to be used for students’ education purposes.

On the other hand, Baloch political activists and the family members of Baloch missing persons are concerned over the incident, calling for a fair and just inquiry report to identify the dead bodies. Baloch activists and journalists raising questions about bringing such a huge number of dead bodies into the hospital without any legal procedures or records. “Are there no CCTV cameras in the hospital?”, a baloch journalist raised questions. Many argue that from the clothes of some dead bodies it is assumed that Baloch peoples wear such clothes.

Sammi Baloch, General Secretary of Voice for Baloch Missing persons quoted the incident and said that the recovery of dead bodies in Nishtar Hospital is concerning for us. She added that the Punjab government’s unsatisfied stance over the incident has grown our reservations and in any case, the data of the dead bodies should be with the government where they found the bodies.

She further asked for a DNA test of the dead bodies quoting that previously dead bodies were found in Lahore, and the news was censored, the families of the missing persons are in dire conditions and fearful for their loved ones.

Despite the video footage, the hospital administration has rejected the reports. A spokesman for the hospital said there was a total of four dead bodies that were there for the educational purposes of the medical students. Adding that the putrefied bodies of people are kept in the hospital for a month and once the said time duration passes, they are sent to the laboratory.
