A local leader of Jamiat Islami, Saeed Baloch, was arrested from his home in Balochistan’s coastal city of Gwadar by police on Tuesday. Soon after the news of his arrest, locals took to the streets to protest against the incident.
According to Saeed Baloch’s family, police entered their house and broke down the door, women and children were tortured and Saeed Ahmed Baloch was arrested along with his children.
Sources also said that while covering the incident the Joint Secretary of Gwadar press club was also tortured by the police and he was forced to stop reporting.
Members of Jamiat Islami and other political groups along with the local people have burned tires on marine drive to create obstacles to block down the traffic.
Along with Jannat Bazar all other shops in the Gwadar city were also shut down by the members of Jamiat Islami and others, business and traffic was completely shut down during the protest. Due to the public pressure and protest against Saeed Baloch’s arrest, he was released later and SHO was transferred.
It is to be noted that a police case was registered against Saeed Baloch by a local government official, according to the which Saeed Baloch was involved in torturing an official. He was arrested on the basis of the report by local police.
Saeed Baloch has also been a victim of ‘enforced disappearances’. He was abducted allegedly by the Pakistani forces in 2010 and released several months later.
