Afghanistan’s strong man and chief of Kandahar police, General Abdul Raziq, has been killed in an insider attack on Thursday.
According to details, General Raziq was killed along with Kandahar governor and the NDS chief of the province while in a meeting with Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
Two American troops were also wounded in the attack, however, General Miller was unhurt in the incident.
Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement the militant group said that an ‘infiltrator’ identified as Abu Dujana was the attacker that killed General Raziq and other high ranking officials.
General Raziq’s death is considered as an incident that will have long-lasting implications on the coalition’s ‘war on terror’. He was seen as the force that held Taliban from controlling southern Afghanistan.
Countless attacks including several suicide attacks were carried out to assassinate General Raziq in past too.
