An 80-year-old farmer and a 19-year-old student were taken away by Pakistani forces in separate incidents in Balochistan, their families and local sources said, as a long-running protest over enforced disappearances continued in Quetta.

Azam Baloch, a farmer from the Panwan area of Jiwani in Gwadar district, was taken from his home by Pakistani military personnel on July 11, local sources said.

In a separate case, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel detained student Zahid Baloch at Chungi Cross in Mastung district on July 5, according to his family.

The families said no information about either man’s fate or whereabouts had been provided since their detention.

Meanwhile, the protest camp organised by the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) outside the Quetta Press Club continued for the 6,229th day on Sunday.

The wife of Mir Taj Mohammad Sarparah told the group that personnel from state institutions had detained her husband on July 19, 2020, while he was travelling from his home to Karachi airport.

She said his case had remained before Pakistan’s Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances for six years and that she had approached all relevant institutions without receiving information about him.

VBMP chairman Nasrullah Baloch called on authorities to disclose the whereabouts of Sarparah and other missing persons and ensure their safe recovery.
