Killings in the name of so-called “honour” continue to be reported in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district.

According to police, armed men allegedly shot and killed a woman, identified as Zar Bano, and a man, Fateh Ali, in Shaheed Kilo, near the border between Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi districts. Police said the victims were targeted over allegations of “Seyah-kari”, a term used locally to refer to accusations of illicit relationships. The attackers fled the scene after the shooting.

Police recovered the bodies and transferred them to a hospital for legal formalities before handing them over to their families. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the families, and an investigation is under way to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Honour killings have repeatedly been reported in Jhal Magsi and other districts of the Naseerabad Division. According to a report by the Aurat Foundation, at least 212 people were killed in alleged honour-related crimes in Balochistan between 2019 and 2024. Naseerabad and Jaffarabad were among the districts with comparatively higher numbers of such cases.

Media reports indicate that 23 people were killed in alleged honour killings in Jaffarabad during the same period. The latest incident is reported to be the second alleged honour killing recorded in July.

Human rights organisations say violence against women and so-called honour killings remain a serious social issue in Balochistan, calling for effective legal action against perpetrators and stronger measures to protect those at risk.
