Developing Story

A large explosion followed by reported gunfire struck a Pakistan Coast Guards camp in the Panwan area of Jiwani, Gwadar, on Friday evening, according to local reports.

Initial accounts indicate that a vehicle reportedly carrying explosives detonated near or inside the Coast Guards facility, causing extensive damage to the camp. Witnesses and local sources said the blast was followed by an armed assault, although details remain unclear.

Unconfirmed reports circulating locally claim that more than 20 Coast Guards personnel were killed in the attack. However, these casualty figures have not been independently verified.

No armed group had claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of publication. While pro-independence Baloch armed groups have previously carried out attacks against Pakistani security forces in the Jiwani area, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the perpetrators of Friday’s attack.

Pakistani military and government authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the reported explosion, the extent of the damage, or possible casualties.

Jiwani, a coastal town in the Gwadar region near the Pakistan-Iran border, has witnessed several attacks targeting security forces in recent years, including incidents involving Pakistan Coast Guards personnel.

The reported attack comes amid a broader escalation in violence across Balochistan, where pro-independence armed groups have claimed a series of operations against Pakistani forces and state installations in recent months.

Further details are expected as more information becomes available.
