At least 22 people were killed and dozens injured in three separate traffic accidents in Balochistan’s Dalbandin, Pishin and Jhal Magsi areas, police and local sources said.

According to reports, nine people were killed and five others seriously injured in a head-on collision on the N-40 highway near Dalbandin, at Dadhar Landhi, when a trailer travelling from Quetta to Taftan collided with a Fielder vehicle coming from Taftan to Quetta.

Police said the deceased were said to belong to Lahore, Jhelum, Mianwali and Islamabad, adding that the trailer driver had been taken into custody and an investigation was under way.

In another incident, five people were killed and 11 others injured in Pishin’s Khanozai area after a rickshaw fell into a deep ravine.

According to police, the accident occurred after the rickshaw’s brakes failed. The injured were shifted to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, eight people, including a woman and a young child, were killed and 30 others injured in Jhal Magsi when a passenger coach travelling from Khuzdar overturned into a stream on the M8 highway.

Passengers said the coach went out of control due to speeding before it overturned. The injured were shifted to hospital, while further investigation into the accident was under way.
