A Baloch student was detained by Pakistani forces in Turbat and moved to an unknown location, his family said, as the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) called for his safe recovery.

Mumtaz Baloch, a fifth-semester student in the Balochi Department at the University of Balochistan, was detained on the third night of Eid from the Kolwahi Bazaar area of Apsar, his family said, adding that he was moved to an unknown location.

They said authorities had neither disclosed the reasons for his detention nor provided information about his well-being, leaving the family in “severe distress”.

The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) said it had taken up the case and urged authorities to “ensure the safe recovery” of Mumtaz Baloch.

Meanwhile, a protest camp against enforced disappearances organised by the group continued for the 6,115th day in Quetta on Thursday, with visitors expressing solidarity with families of missing persons.

Ghulam Farooq, the group’s information secretary, said families needed to come forward with evidence, adding that without their participation “no case of enforced disappearance can be effectively registered at the national or international level”.

He urged families not to remain silent and called on political parties, student organisations and other segments of society to support efforts to document cases.
