Detained leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including its chief organiser Dr. Mahrang Baloch, have written to the Balochistan Bar Council requesting that the hearings of their cases be transferred to another court, citing concerns over alleged bias during proceedings in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta.
In the letter, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, along with BYC-affiliated leaders Sebghatullah Shah Ji, Beebow Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Bebarg Baloch, said they have been in custody for nearly a year and are currently facing trial in multiple cases.
They said that during hearings at the ATC in Quetta they were subjected to “bias and unfair treatment,” which they said was contrary to fundamental human rights and the principles of a fair trial.
The detained leaders stated that they had also raised their concerns in court on 7 February 2026 and expressed no confidence in the presiding judge.
According to the letter, certain remarks and orders issued during the proceedings had “completely eroded” their confidence in the court, raising fears that a fair trial may not be possible under the current judge.
They further said that when objections regarding the alleged bias and lack of confidence were raised, the matter was not properly considered nor referred to a higher court in accordance with legal procedure.
In the letter, the detained leaders urged the Balochistan Bar Council to intervene and approach the High Court so that their cases could be transferred to “an impartial court” and the requirements of a fair trial could be fulfilled.
They also stated that the judiciary is a key pillar of the state and that oppressed segments of society place strong expectations on it for the delivery of justice, adding that the process of ensuring justice should not face further delay.
