The body of a man who had been abducted by unidentified gunmen last week was recovered in Balochistan’s Panjgur district on Friday, local sources said.
The victim, Abdul Haleem, a resident of the Khudabadan area of Panjgur, was taken away at gunpoint after Taraweeh prayers last week and moved to an unknown location, the sources said.
His body was found in the Sarikoran area of the district.
Local residents alleged that the abductors were linked to a state-backed armed group commonly referred to locally as a “death squad”.
Residents said there had been a noticeable increase in similar incidents in Panjgur in recent weeks, adding that the bodies of at least 12 people have been recovered from different parts of the district over the past month.
Many of those whose bodies were recovered had previously been reported missing, residents said.
