Authorities in Balochistan have reported that more than fifty prisoners, including high-profile inmates, escaped following a series of attacks on jails by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) over the past week.
Officials said the recent BLA attacks targeted Central Jail Mastung and District Jail Noshki. The incidents occurred during coordinated operations in which the BLA fighters also attacked police stations and security force camps across the region. Among the escaped inmates were individuals implicated in serious criminal cases, including murder trials, though officials did not provide exact details of their identities. Reports also indicate that inmates incriminated in the murder of Balochistan Chief Justice also broke free from the prison.
In response to the breaches, prison authorities have intensified security measures at jails across Balochistan. Wardens have been equipped with modern firearms, and the paramilitary Frontier Corps has been requested to assist in maintaining security. An inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escapes and to determine how the BLA fighters were able to breach the facilities.
The incidents come amid the ongoing “Operation Herof” launched by the Baloch Liberation Army earlier this week. The campaign has included simultaneous attacks in multiple districts, with fighters reportedly taking control of several locations, including administrative offices and police posts. Security officials have confirmed the deaths of multiple senior police officers and said dozens of personnel have been temporarily held by armed groups during the operations.
The prison attacks highlight a widening security challenge in Balochistan, where authorities are grappling with widespread militant operations, ongoing clashes between security forces and insurgents, and disruptions to civilian life.
