Local authorities in Ormara have cancelled a planned literary program scheduled for December 24, 2025, to mark the birth anniversary of renowned Balochi poet Mubarak Qazi, citing orders from higher authorities.

Sources said the event’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) was withdrawn at the last moment, and the Ormara administration was formally instructed not to allow the program to take place.

According to local officials, the decision followed what were described as “strict directives from above,” reportedly issued by military authorities, instructing that no event be permitted under the name of Mubarak Qazi.

The program had been planned to coincide with Qazi’s birthday and was intended to commemorate his literary contributions. However, organizers were informed that any gathering or activity associated with his name would not be allowed.

This is not the first such incident. In the past, similar academic and literary events held in memory of Mubarak Qazi were reportedly stopped by local administrations in several areas, including Lasbela, following intervention by authorities.

Mubarak Qazi, a prominent poet of the Balochi language, was born on December 24, 1956, in the Pasni area of Makran. He passed away in September 2024 in Turbat and was laid to rest in his hometown. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Balochi literature, Qazi was known for both his love poetry and his resistance-themed verses.

His work, which reflected Baloch history, culture, and political aspirations, earned him widespread recognition during his lifetime. Qazi’s poetry has been credited with shaping modern Balochi literary expression and influencing generations of writers and activists.

The repeated prevention of programs commemorating the poet has raised concerns among literary circles, who view the restrictions as an attempt to suppress cultural expression and historical memory in Balochistan.
