Two people have died and seven others were injured after a powerful explosion struck the Gwarkop area of Kech district on Thursday evening.

According to local sources, the blast occurred around sunset while a group of young men were playing in a nearby field.

The injured have been identified as Ali, son of Ghulam; Shahbaz, son of Dostain; Naseer, son of Mehrab; Jameel, son of Dilmurad; Jamal, son of Hameed; Barkat, son of Iqbal; and Wazir, son of Ghulam Ali.

Medical officials said four of the victims, who were critically injured, were referred to Karachi for emergency treatment. Two of them reportedly died en route to the hospital. The remaining individuals are currently receiving medical care.

Local residents alleged that the explosion was caused by a mortar shell fired by Pakistani forces, adding that multiple shells were launched from a nearby military camp and landed in various locations across the area.

Pakistani authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of publication.
