In a targeted attack last night in the Wadh area of Khuzdar, Atta-ur-Rehman Mengal, the brother of Shafiq Mengal, an alleged notorious leader of the government-backed “death squad”, was killed. His son, Muti-ur-Rehman Mengal, was also injured in the assault.
Shafiq Mengal has long been accused of involvement in forced disappearances, target killings, and the burial of victims in mass graves, with numerous reports linking him to the state-supported “death squad.”
In 2011, Shafiq Mengal survived a suicide bombing attack carried out by the Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade, in which several of his associates were killed or wounded.
The motives behind this latest attack remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the assault as of now.
