A court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leaders Ali Wazir and Manzoor Pashteen.
Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas issued the warrants, citing their repeated failure to appear in a case related to an alleged anti-state march.
The case, registered at Tarnol Police Station, accuses them of organising a protest that allegedly disrupted public order.
The court was expected to hear arguments on a plea for acquittal submitted by the accused. However, due to their absence, the session was adjourned until April 26. The court then issued arrest warrants to ensure their presence at the next hearing.
Notably, Ali Wazir has been imprisoned for the past nine months, facing multiple cases in Sindh, Balochistan, and other regions. The decision to issue a fresh arrest warrant against him, despite his continued detention, has drawn criticism.
Reacting to the development, Imaan Mazari criticised the court’s order, calling it absurd. “Our courts have turned into a mockery where an individual already in custody is being issued an arrest warrant for failing to appear,” she said.
