A suicide bomber targeted Taliban personnel gathered to receive their salaries in Kunduz, a city in northern Afghanistan, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the explosion occurred near the Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz this morning as government officials were collecting their salaries, resulting in multiple casualties.
Taliban officials confirmed the attack, stating that a suicide bomber detonated explosives near Kabul Bank.
Afghanistan-based TOLO News, citing Jummahuddin Khaksar, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police in Kunduz, reported that five people, including Taliban members and civilians, were killed in the explosion, while seven others sustained injuries.
The Kunduz police administration has launched an investigation and stated that further details will be provided to the media soon.
It is worth noting that a similar explosion occurred last year near a bank in Kandahar, targeting Taliban personnel and others collecting their salaries.
The Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for the Kandahar attack, but no group has yet claimed responsibility for today’s blast in Kunduz.
