A court in Islamabad has ordered the release of lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended an earlier decision approving their physical remand.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had initially granted a three-day physical remand in connection with alleged security violations during the England cricket team’s visit.

The appeal against the remand was reviewed by an IHC division bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz. Advocates Zainab Janjua and Qaiser Imam represented Mazari and Chattha, arguing against the remand order.

The court asked the prosecutor to present the remand request and review the corresponding judicial order. Chief Justice Farooq questioned the validity of the remand order, which the prosecutor affirmed.

However, Chief Justice Farooq noted that the remand order did not comply with guidelines set by the Lahore High Court.

The IHC subsequently overruled the physical remand order, directing that Mazari and Chattha be placed on judicial remand. Following this decision, ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra ordered their release on bail.
