The Haq Do Tehreek has called for a shutter-down strike across Gwadar district on November 27 in protest against the extrajudicial killing of Basheer Ahmed, who was in the custody of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Addressing a press conference in Quetta, the central organizer of Haq Do Tehreek, Hafeez Kiyazai, condemned the custodial killing of Basheer Ahmed and urged the public, including traders and business owners, to support the strike. He called the incident a “heart-wrenching and inhumane act,” emphasizing the need for unity in denouncing such actions.

The group’s spokesperson appealed to local trade unions and business communities to join the strike in solidarity.

Basheer Ahmed, the son of Abdul Ghani, was forcibly disappeared from Gwadar in May 2024 by security forces. His arrest was later confirmed by the CTD and then-Provincial Interior Minister Zia Langove in a press conference, where he was accused of having ties with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

On November 22, Ahmed’s body was found in the Awaran district of Balochistan. Days earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claimed that four individuals were killed in operations and clashes in Awaran, Kech, and Dera Bugti. The CTD later presented his death as the result of an encounter, a claim denounced by activists as a cover-up for a custodial killing.

The Haq Do Tehreek and other rights groups have strongly condemned the incident, calling for accountability and justice for Basheer Ahmed and others subjected to enforced disappearances.
