A woman has died during childbirth due to the absence of doctors and the lack of gynecological facilities in three Rural Health Centers (RHCs) in Tump Tehsil of Kech district.
According to the woman’s relatives, 20-year-old Najiba, a resident of Nazarabad, sought help from a local compounder after her health deteriorated during labor. She experienced continuous vomiting but could not receive proper medical care due to the absence of both female and male doctors in Tump.
With no available doctors in the area, Najiba was forced to travel to Turbat City to seek help at the teaching hospital. According to the family, doctors in Turbat informed them that the child had already died in the womb, and Najiba’s condition had worsened due to an infection and poisoning spreading in her body.
On October 12, Najiba’s family decided to take her to Karachi for further treatment. Tragically, she passed away en route, near the Ormara area.
Local residents in Tump have expressed outrage over the absence of healthcare professionals in the region. They have called on Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, the Secretary of Health Balochistan, and the District Health Officer (DHO) of Kech to take immediate action.
They are demanding a thorough investigation and the urgent appointment of both male and female doctors in Tump’s three hospitals to prevent further loss of life.
It is important to note that maternal deaths are common in Balochistan due to the lack of healthcare facilities and medical staff. Just three days earlier, on October 11, another pregnant woman died due to the unavailability of an ambulance.
