For the first time, a polio case has been reported in the Kharan district of Balochistan.
Health officials in the district confirmed that a two-year-old girl from Kharan has been diagnosed with polio. Her test samples were taken on July 25 after she exhibited symptoms of paralysis, and the diagnosis was confirmed shortly thereafter.
This marks the 12th polio case reported in Balochistan within the first eight months of this year.
Polio is a highly contagious disease caused by the poliovirus, primarily affecting children under the age of five. The virus attacks the nervous system and can lead to paralysis or even death.
There is no cure for polio, but vaccination is the most effective protection. Each immunization strengthens a child’s defense against the virus. Vaccination efforts have led to the near-eradication of polio globally, with Pakistan and Afghanistan being the only countries where the virus remains endemic.
