Scotland-Based Baloch Community Protests Crackdown on BYC

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on two Pakistan Coast Guards boats in Jiwani, a coastal area of Gwadar district in Balochistan, claiming that 13 personnel were killed. In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group’s maritime unit, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), simultaneously targeted two large Coast Guards boats in what he described as a coordinated and intense attack. He claimed that 13 personnel were killed at the scene. There was no immediate response from Pakistani authorities regarding the reported attack or casualties. Jeeyand Baloch said the BLA had formally announced the establishment of the HMDF on 13 April 2026, describing it as part of the group’s efforts to expand the scope of the Baloch independence movement and protect Balochistan’s maritime territory, coastline and resources. He further claimed that the unit had carried out its first maritime operation on 12 April 2026 at Mil Tiyab in Jiwani, targeting a Pakistani Navy patrol boat and killing three naval personnel. The spokesperson said the unit was named after Hammal Jeeyand Baloch, whom the group described as a prominent Baloch maritime resistance figure of the sixteenth century who opposed Portuguese colonial expansion in the region.

Armed men reportedly established a checkpoint on the Harnai–Sanjavi Highway in Balochistan and abducted two men from Punjab while inspecting vehicles at Tor Kham Tangi. According to reports, the armed men stopped vehicles and checked passengers’ identity cards before taking the two men to an undisclosed location. Harnai police identified the abducted men as Asghar, son of Muhammad Asif, and Tariq. Both are reportedly residents of Chowk Qureshi in Muzaffargarh district, Punjab. Police said the two men were non-local residents who worked as truck drivers. No one had claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of publication. Such incidents have been reported in various parts of Balochistan amid a long-running conflict involving Baloch nationalist armed groups and Pakistani military and law-enforcement agencies. Baloch armed groups have periodically established temporary checkpoints on highways, inspected vehicles and carried out attacks on security installations, particularly in districts including Kachhi, Kalat, Nushki, Kech, Kharan and Mastung. In September, armed checkpoints were reported across several districts of Balochistan, including Kharan, Kalat and Surab. Separate reports from Nushki indicated that armed men had entered the city and allegedly seized weapons from police personnel.
