A man was allegedly killed, and a woman was injured in a firing incident in the Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan.

According to reports, a man was killed and a woman injured in the Gandawa area of Gandakha Goth Dur Muhammad Brohi in the district in the name of honor on Friday.

Police sources said that the accused, Naveed Ahmed Rind, opened fire on his wife and a man, resulting in the death of the man, Niyaz Hussain Brohi, and wounding the woman.

Police reached the scene after the incident and took the dead body to Civil Hospital Osta Muhammad, then handed him over to his heirs after the postmortem. The injured woman was referred to Larkana Hospital. After the incident, the accused managed to escape.

It is important to highlight that cases of honor killings in Balochistan are becoming serious. A day before this incident, a person shot a woman named Mahmooda and a man named Sajid Ali in the Dera Allah Yar district.

In another incident, two individuals, a man and a woman, were reportedly killed in the name of honor in Bolan’s town of Dhadar earlier this month. The man was named Mithal Khan, but the woman’s name is unknown. Before this, three women and a young boy were killed in the name of honor in the Khuzdar district in April. Meanwhile, only one arrest has been made in these incidents.

In the five months of the current year 2024, The Balochistan Post has received reports of five cases of honor killings from different districts of Balochistan, in which seven people have been killed, including two men and five women.

According to a report by the Women Foundation, 324 incidents of violence against women were reported in Balochistan in the last five years (2019 to 2023). Meanwhile, 179 people, including women, have been killed in the name of honor.

Human Rights Organizations are demanding that government authorities take action to prevent these incidents and address the violence against women. However, no action has been taken at the government level to prevent these incidents.
