Two more cases of ‘enforced disappearances’ have emerged from the Kech district of Balochistan in the last two days.
According to reports, Pakistani forces have allegedly forcibly disappeared a man named Aziz Shambey during a house raid in Buleda town of Kech at 2 A.M, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Women and children were allegedly severely tortured in the raid by the army personnel. However, district administration or related authorities have not yet confirmed or denied the allegations.
Talking to a TBP correspondent about the incident, the family warned that if Aziz is not released within 24 hours, all highways connecting Turbat with the rest of Balochistan will be closed in protest.
Similarly, unidentified gunmen detained a civil society leader from Kolwah town of the Kech on Thursday.
As per reports, gunmen abducted Jameel Umar, a social activist and Deputy Convener of the Turbat Civil Society, near Bilour area when he was on his way to Turbat from Kolwah at 6 pm on Thursday.
Sources said that Jameel Umar had gone to Kolwah with his friend Sana Baloch two days earlier and was returning on Thursday evening.
According to sources, gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on their vehicle, after which both of them were forcibly disappeared. Speaking to the TBP correspondent, local sources alleged that they were abducted by a government-backed militia (locally known as death squads).
Enforced disappearance in Balochistan has become an alarming issue where almost everyday citizens fall victim to enforced disappearances. Baloch circles, political activists, and international human rights organizations have accused Pakistani forces and its secretive agencies of these serious human rights violations. However, the Pakistani authorities either don’t comment on these incidents or reject the allegations.
