In Kech’s Zamuran area, locals and vehicle drivers are protesting against alleged extortion and violence at a Levies checkpoint.
The protesters claim that a non-local individual, allegedly working as a private guard for an Assistant Commissioner (AC) and associated with the Levies force, is forcefully collecting money and resorting to violence to enforce his demands.
On Wednesday, an incident was reported where a vehicle owner was purportedly coerced into providing twenty liters of petrol. Furthermore, a Levies force official is accused of setting fire to a stall owned by a hotelier.
In response, the locals and affected vehicle owners have organized a sit-in, urging the Deputy Commissioner to investigate and address the actions of the Levies personnel and the AC’s private guard.
