The Pakistani security forces have been carrying out a military operation in Mashkay, a tehsil of district Awaran in Balochistan, that has entered its second day. The operation, which began after a drone attack in the area a day earlier, has deployed highly-trained commandoes and military gunship choppers in the area.
Local sources told The Balochistan Post that different areas have been cordoned off and makeshift security checkpoints have been established. They also said that they heard violent explosions coming from the Gurandi area of Mashkay.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, confirmed that the operation was launched on the “reported presence of terrorists” in the area, and alleged that five “terrorists” were killed in an intelligence-based operation. The ISPR also said that a “terrorists’” hideout was destroyed and a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered.
The ISPR added that the operation is still ongoing to “eliminate any other terrorist found in the area.”
