Farmers across Balochistan held a ‘wheel-jam’ strike on Thursday to protest against what they claim is an insufficient electricity supply. The Farmer Action Committee organized the strike, which resulted in extensive traffic disruptions as long lines of vehicles formed on main highways.
The committee warned that if the electricity supply was not restored following Thursday’s strike, they would hold a meeting on Friday, November 3rd, to consider further actions, including a possible march to Islamabad and a sit-in protest.
Key highways, such as the Quetta-Chaman International Highway and the Quetta-Karachi highway, were blocked from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the strike, affecting several districts.
Representatives Malik Naseer Ahmad Shahwani and Haji Abdul Rahman Bazai, chairman and general secretary of the Farmer Action Committee, respectively, have called for the immediate restoration of electricity, citing the adverse impact on agriculture sector and the livelihood of local farmers.
