The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), an armed “pro-independence” group, has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on a security forces convoy in Balochistan’s Chagai district.
In a media statement, Major Gwahram Baloch, the spokesperson for the BLF, said a remote-controlled bomb was used to target the convoy in Chagai’s Drum Bazaar. The explosion reportedly resulted in the destruction of a security forces vehicle, causing the death of six Pakistani soldiers and injuring two others.
The BLF’s statement also referenced the contentious history of Chagai, where Pakistan conducted nuclear tests. These tests, the BLF argues, left the children of the Baloch nation vulnerable to the effects of radiation, while the region’s resources continue to be exploited. The group further warned businesses operating in Chagai and throughout Balochistan, advising them against relying on assurances from Pakistani authorities.
The statement emphasized, “The Baloch nation is in a state of war, and no plan without the will and consent of the Baloch people is acceptable in Balochistan.”
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan’s military, has yet to comment on the incident or the BLF’s claims.
