At least seven minor girls were killed and two were seriously affected by drowning in a river in the Kallag area of Turbat on Sunday.

According to reports, seven girls, aged between 10 and 17, drowned while bathing in a river in Kallag around 5 pm.

The deceased have been identified as Fiza, daughter of Zubair, Faiza, daughter of Salim, Mahtab, daughter of Karim, Durdana, daughter of Naeem, Bushra, daughter of Ghulam, Shireen, daughter of Nasir and Mahzaib, daughter of Ashraf.

Police said that the girls had gone for a picnic when they drowned in the water while bathing. The locals confirmed that no rescue efforts were made by the authorities in this regard, while locals of the area took the bodies out of the river with their own help and shifted them to the Teaching Hospital Turbat.

The hospital authorities later handed over the bodies to the heirs after necessary procedures.
