Leishmaniasis disease widely spreading in Balochistan, the health department called for the help from World Health Organization.
Director General Health Services Balochistan, Dr. Noor Muhammad Qazi said that Leishmaniasis is rapidly spreading in Balochistan, Sixteen and a half thousand Leishmaniasis patients have been registered in sixteen districts of Balochistan.
According to DG health, injections are necessary for the treatment of the disease, which are not only available in Balochistan but in Pakistan as well. They said that twenty injections will be used for the treatment of only one person affected with the disease. The department has requested to WHO for injections supply.
The health department has sent a summary to the provincial government for providing funds for the purchase of injections.
Leishmaniasis is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of Phlebotomine sand flies.
