It is suspected that a drone attack may have caused the explosion which struck 3 petrol tanks in Abu Dhabi and another fire at an extension of Abu Dhabi International Airport on Monday.

According to reports, the blast killed 3 and wounded 6 more.Police said they are an investigating into the matter. While Abu Dhabi police did not immediately offer any suspects for the attack. It is suspected that a drone attack was targeting a key oil facility in Abu Dhabi.

Whereas, Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack targeting the United Arab Emirates. The Houthi’s statement did not elaborate about the attack. It is to mention that in the past The Houthis have claimed multiple attacks that Emirati officials later denied took place.

Police said that there are two Indian nationals and one Pakistani among the dead.

“Small flying objects” were found as three petrol tanks exploded in an industrial area and a fire was ignited at the airport, police said, as Houthi rebels announced “military operations” in the UAE, AlJazeera reported.

Drone attacks are a hallmark of the Houthis’ assaults on Saudi Arabia, the UAE ally that is leading the coalition fighting for Yemen’s government in the grinding civil war.

The Emirati Foreign Ministry condemned the attack by the Houthi rebels saying “it will not go unpunished”. Bahrain has also condemned the attack, terming it a “cowardly terrorist attack”.
