The American congress has approved the resolution to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time. The resolution received an approval of 232 votes, including 10 votes from the president’s Republican Party. 197 participants voted against it. The final judgement will be passed on January 19th, a day before the end of Trump’s presidential term and the inauguration of Joe Biden as the new president of the United States.
The Congress – and the majority of the US – has accused the president of instigating the Capitol Hill riots where a mob of his supporters stormed the seat of the American democracy, ransacked the building and threatened the officials. Four persons died in the riots, including a woman who was shot dead by the security forces inside the building.
Speaker of the Congress Nancy Pelosi signed the impeachment resolution, paving the way for the possible second impeachment of the president. Trump was also impeached in the past for misusing his authority to defame Joe Biden – then only a presidential candidate – and impair his chances of presidency.
Pelosi said that no one is above the law in the United States; first time in the American history a sitting president will be impeached twice and the matter will be settled on January 19th.
On the other hand, the authorities have decided to deploy ten thousand guards in Washington on the inauguration day of President-elect Joe Biden. More than 3000 army personnel are already guarding the Capitol Hill and other high-priority areas of the US capital. The Federal Bureau of Investigation thinks that there is a chance that thousands of armed Trump supporters might try to besiege the Hill, just like they did a week ago.
