Two, including a woman, were killed in an incident of so-called ‘Honour killing’ in Naseer Abad district on Saturday
According to the details received by the Balochistan Post, the incident occurred in ‘Khiya’ area of Chathar town in Naseer Abad district where an armed man opened fire on a couple, killing both of them.
Sources claimed that it was an incident of honour killing, which resulted in the death of a woman and her alleged lover.
Police told the media that they were after the perpetrator who had fled the scene after killing the couple.
A surge has been observed in the number of honour killings this year, most of the incident happening in Balochistan’s Naseer Abad district.
In the previous month, eight people including four women were killed in two incidents of so-called honour killings in Naseer Abad district.
Locals complain that local administration including the police have failed to put an end to these killings and a fear continuous to haunt them.
According to the UNO report on honour killing, every year about 5000 women are killed in the name of honour in the world.
The reports of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan HRCP and NGOs working in Balochistan for human rights and woman empowerment said that approximately 76 women braved violence only in 2016 in which 36 women, mostly teenage girls.
