On Saturday, Baloch nation commemorated 11th death anniversary of famous Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti by holding vigils and various events across Balochistan and the world.
Legendary leader Akbar Khan Bugti was assassinated by Pakistan army along with his companions in Tharataani area of Kahan, Balochistan on 26th august, 2006.
A Balochistan-wide strike was observed to mark the 11th death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti on Saturday. Baloch nation observes complete strike on this day every year since 2006. Markets and shops were shut and vehicular traffic remained sparse on the roads.
According to The Balochistan Post (TBP) correspondent, a complete shutter-down strike was observed in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. Heavy contingents of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and police were deployed throughout the city as security measures.
Meanwhile, Khuzdar, Mastung, Jaffarabad, Sibi, Kharan, Gwadar, Turbat and other areas also witnessed complete shutter down strikes.
Baloch Republican Party (BRP), a pro independence political party, headed by Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti’s grandson, Brahumdagh Bugti, organised different events to commemorate the day. An event was held in London to commemorate martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Nawab Akbar Bugti, where different speakers paid tribute to slain Baloch leader.
Separately BRP Greece chapter also held a reference to pay homage to slain leader on his 11th martyrdom anniversary. Vigils were also held in different other countries of the world.
Brahumdagh Bugti, praised life of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti through a series of tweets: ”Today marks 11th martyrdom anniversary of father of nation #ShaheedNawabAkbarBugti. We’ll forever be indebted to him for his great struggle”, he posted.
In another tweet Mr. Bugti said: ”The enemy thought they will win by martyring #ShaheedNawabAkbarBugti. Time has proven them wrong and defeat has become their destiny”.
Baloch National Movement (BNM), a political organisation, tweeted from their official twitter account ”We pay rich tribute to Shaheed Nawab Akbar Bugti on his 11th martyrdom anniversary, nation will soon achieve the goal he left on our shoulders”.
Baloch freedom activists affiliated to different political groups also ran a twitter campaign to highlight life and struggle of their beloved leader.
