At least eight militants belonging to Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group have been killed in airstrikes conducted in the southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed the airstrikes, which killed eight militants in Nawa district of Helmand, the Khaama Press reported.

“A total of eleven insurgents were killed in the airstrikes, including eight members of Lashkar-e-Taiba and at least six militants also sustained injuries in the airstrikes,” the statement further added.

There have been no comments from the insurgent groups on the incident so far.

Earlier, additional U.S. Marines were dispatched to to strengthen its forces in the violent Helmand province where Taliban has increased their attacks.

The Pentagon’s decision of deploying more troops in Afghanistan comes after the Afghan Security and Defence Forces have successfully repelled the multiple attacks of Taliban fighters, who targeted a bridge in the district and created a hurdle to the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Pipeline (TAPI) pipeline project in the Gereshk district in the southern Helmand province in which over 40 Taliban insurgents and four soldiers were killed.
