The Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a protest in Seattle, Washington, calling on the United States to review its relations and assistance to Pakistan and make any support conditional on respect for human rights in Balochistan.
According to the BNM, protesters carried placards highlighting alleged human rights violations, military operations and bombardment in Balochistan. Speakers at the protest said Baloch civilians were being killed during Pakistani military operations and bombardments.
The speakers appealed to the American public to raise their voices against the situation in Balochistan, saying assistance funded by US taxpayers was indirectly being used to support the Pakistani military.
They urged Washington to review the assistance it provides to Pakistan and said future support should be linked to respect for human rights.
The speakers said the international community, particularly the United States, had a responsibility to help end human rights violations in Balochistan and protect the fundamental rights of the Baloch people.
The Seattle protest follows a series of recent BNM activities in Geneva, where a delegation led by chairman Dr Naseem Baloch met a member of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances and submitted a six-month human rights report and a dossier on enforced disappearances.
The organisation later held its 12th Balochistan International Conference, a protest rally and a photo exhibition outside the UN office.
BNM’s USA chapter also held a digital-truck campaign in New York during the UN General Assembly and protested outside UN headquarters during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address, highlighting enforced disappearances and the human rights situation in Balochistan.
