Asma Jattak, a resident of Khuzdar, has called on the Balochistan government and law-enforcement authorities to make public the findings of an investigation into the killing of her father, Inayatullah Jattak, arrest those allegedly responsible and provide security to her family.
Jattak said her family had been living in fear and insecurity following a series of incidents that began with her alleged abduction and were followed by the killing of her father.
She said a fact-finding committee was constituted on August 8 to investigate the case and was expected to submit its report within 15 days. However, 51 days had passed without the report being made public or the family being informed about the progress of the investigation, she said.
Jattak questioned the delay and asked why the family had not been taken into confidence during the investigation.
She said Dr Tufail Baloch, who headed the fact-finding committee, was transferred following her father’s killing. DIG Wazir Nasir later publicly stated that several people had been arrested in connection with the case, raising hopes within the family that the investigation was progressing, she said, but he was subsequently transferred as well.
According to Jattak, the transfers and continuing delay had further increased the family’s concerns over the investigation and their own safety. She said Zahoor Jamalzai, whom the family identifies as the main suspect, had yet to be arrested.
Jattak called for the fact-finding committee’s report to be made public, the family to be regularly briefed on the investigation and legal action to be taken against Jamalzai and any other suspects wanted in connection with the case.
“Our silence should not be mistaken for weakness. We only want justice, accountability for the blood of our loved ones and protection for the remaining members of our family,” she said.
She also called for an impartial investigation and immediate security arrangements for the family, adding that officials responsible for the case should be allowed to carry out their duties without undue pressure.
Appealing to Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Jattak asked him to take notice of the family’s concerns and ensure practical steps were taken to provide security and access to justice.
“We are broken, frightened and helpless, but we do not want to close the last door of hope for justice for our loved ones,” she said, adding that the family wanted to see justice delivered rather than receive only “hope and promises”.
In February 2025, Jattak was allegedly abducted from her home in Khuzdar. A case was subsequently registered on a complaint by her brother, Hafeezullah, naming Zahoor Jamalzai, described as a bodyguard of former Balochistan chief minister Sanaullah Zehri, and others.
Her father, Inayatullah Jattak, was killed in Khuzdar in August 2026, hours after Asma Jattak publicly raised concerns over threats to the family and appealed for protection. The family has identified Jamalzai, who was also named in the earlier abduction case, as the main suspect in his killing.
