The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has raised concerns over the reported displacement of residents from Sardasht, near Shadi Kaor in Gwadar district, saying local families are being asked to leave their homes on security grounds.
In a statement issued to the media, the BYC said Sardasht is an established Baloch settlement where around 3,000 people have lived for generations. It said areas including Rik Bazaar, Syed Mohammad Bazaar and Tolgo form part of the community’s social and economic life.
The organisation alleged that residents were being displaced from their homes and land under the justification of security concerns. It questioned the legal basis for the reported measures and called on authorities to clarify whether any written orders had been issued.
The BYC also linked the situation to what it described as broader restrictions affecting communities in Gwadar and along the Makran coast, including checkpoints, restrictions on fishing and cross-border livelihoods, and proposed measures affecting access to local areas.
The organisation said the reported displacement could have significant social and economic consequences for affected families and called for the process to be halted.
It further called for families who have already been displaced to be allowed to return and for any verified losses to be compensated. The BYC also urged human rights organisations to independently investigate the situation.
The group cited provisions of Pakistan’s Constitution and international human rights instruments in support of its position and called on authorities to disclose the legal basis for the reported evictions.
The BYC added that evictions violated constitutional rights under Articles 9, 14, 15, 23 and 24 of Pakistan’s Constitution, as well as provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
Pakistani authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations cited in the statement.
