The Baloch Liberation Army on Friday said Deputy Director and Commanding Officer of the Airport Security Force, Wasim Ahmed, was in its custody after being detained on the main highway in Balochistan’s Kalat district.
“The Deputy Director and Commanding Officer of the Airport Security Force (ASF), which operates under the Ministry of Defence of Pakistan, Wasim Ahmed, is in our custody. BLA fighters detained him after identifying him on the main highway in Kalat,” BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said in a media statement.
The group said the operation was carried out on the basis of “confidential intelligence” provided by ZIRAB, its intelligence wing, adding that further details would be released to the media soon.
Earlier in the day, sources said Ahmed had gone missing after his vehicle was intercepted by Baloch fighters near Kalat.
They said he was travelling in connection with official duty at the time.
Ahmed was posted in Zhob, according to sources familiar with his service record. He had previously served in Multan, Karachi and Panjgur, and was later posted to Karachi and Zhob after becoming deputy director.
Pakistani authorities had not confirmed the detention of the senior ASF official or issued an official statement at the time of publication.
