A Pakistani Army organised motor rally to mark “peace” in the country comes under heavy attack by unknown assailants in Balochistan.

The rally was attacked on Monday morning in Aasank near Balgithar in Turbat District.

There are reports of causalities, however, full details are yet to come.

Rockets and other heavy weaponry were used in the attack, reported the local TBP correspondent.

According to TBP correspondent, Gunship helicopters deployed for the security of the motor rally have been shelling nearby mountains since the attack.

The local administration has also confirmed that an attack has taken place.

The ‘peace rally’, which kicked off in Khunjerab on Oct 21, was supposed to end in Gwadar on Oct 31.

Aimed at marking the 70th year of the country’s independence and promote tourism and national cultural heritage, the rally is held under the auspices of the Pakistan Army, the Dawn news reported.

Analysts believe the main reason motor rally passed through Balochistan was to show China the region is secure for CPEC project. However, today’s attack proved otherwise.

Balochistan is engulfed in an “independence war” since it was forcibly annexed with Pakistan in 1948.
