The Quetta-bound Bolan Express was halted at Jacobabad Railway Station due to a lack of security clearance.
According to railway officials, the decision was made in light of security concerns, and passengers traveling to Quetta were refunded their fares.Railway officials emphasize that security clearance processes are essential due to the high risk of attacks on railway tracks and stations in Balochistan. Whenever risks escalate, services are suspended to ensure public safety and prevent loss of life.
However, the reasons for the current suspension were not detailed further. The passengers are facing considerable challenges due to the suspension of train services, especially those who had planned to travel to Quetta and other destinations in the region.
Many passengers expressed frustration, stating that although railway authorities refunded their fares, no alternative arrangements were provided to facilitate their travel plans.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced changes to the venue and dates of the players’ draft ceremony for the 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). Initially scheduled to take place in Gwadar on January 11, the draft will now be held in Lahore on January 13 due to similar security concerns.
It should be mentioned that frequent attacks in Balochistan, including the targeting of railway tracks and state installations, often lead to disruptions in railway services.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has been carrying out coordinated attacks, setting up checkpoints on highways and targeting railway bridges and tracks, posing significant challenges to railway authorities.
In August last year, the BLA launched a series of attacks on central railway tracks under “Operation Herof,” which resulted in the suspension of all Balochistan-bound trains for a month. During this time, passengers were advised to use alternative travel routes. Additionally, the BLA’s Majeed Brigade attacked Pakistan Army personnel at Quetta Railway Station last year, causing significant casualties.
