The district of Khuzdar in Balochistan witnessed a significant turnout of protestors on Saturday, rallying against the enforced disappearances of Hafiz Tayyab and numerous other missing individuals. The rally, marked by demonstrations and calls for action, demanded the safe recovery of all missing persons from the region.
The protest was called by the family of Hafiz Tayyab and quickly garnered support from the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), relatives of other missing persons, and the broader community.
Participants marched through the city’s main thoroughfares, voicing their opposition to enforced disappearances and advocating for the safe return of their loved ones. The family of Hafiz Tayyab, who was reportedly taken by Pakistani security forces on May 4, 2013, from Jhalawan Hospital Khuzdar, lamented his absence of over eleven years.
The family said that if there is any credible evidence against Hafiz Tayyab, due process should be followed, and he should be presented before a court of law.
The protest also highlighted the plight of many others in Khuzdar, with families sharing their grievances about the disappearance of their relatives. The BYC leaders at the protest said that despite previous protests and appeals to authorities in Islamabad, their calls for a safe return have remained unheeded.
The demonstrators demanded not only the safe return of the missing individuals but also transparency regarding the whereabouts and condition of Hafiz Tayyab.
Furthermore, they appealed to national and international human rights organizations to take notice of the situation and to hold the state accountable for protecting its citizens, as mandated by law.
