Torrential rains and heavy snowfall have wreaked havoc across Balochistan, leading to the submersion of cities, the closure of highways, and a significant drop in temperatures.

In Gwadar, Torrential downpours on the morning of February 27th triggered a flood situation, submerging parts of Gwadar city and the area of Sarabandan.

The adverse weather also led to the closure of educational institutions, with matriculation exams being postponed. Locals are urgently appealing to the government to declare an emergency in Gwadar.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain has been recorded across various areas in Balochistan, with Gwadar receiving the highest amount at 58 millimeters. Other areas such as Quetta, Panjgur, Awaran, Dalbandin, Khuzdar, and Turbat have also been affected by rainfall to varying degrees.

In Kech district, stormy rains have washed away the Turbat to Mand road, compelling authorities to discourage travel. The same weather pattern in Naseerabad and Dera Murad Jamali has led to the flooding of low-lying areas and significant power outages after several electricity feeders tripped.

As Balochistan grapples with these challenging weather conditions, colder areas are experiencing severe temperature drops. Quetta and Kalat have reported minimum temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius, indicating a sharp increase in cold weather.

The ongoing weather crisis has led to calls from Balochistan’s residents for immediate government action to mitigate the impact of the severe weather and to ensure the provision of essential services, including electricity and gas, during this difficult period.
