In a recent update posted on the social media platform by the Amnesty International South Asia Regional Office, it was revealed that a significant number of individuals have been subjected to involuntary disappearances within Pakistan. This distressing situation has left their families and close associates in a state of uncertainty, desperately seeking information. The statement emphasized the vital importance of revealing the whereabouts of these individuals to their concerned families.

Furthermore, the Amnesty International South Asia Regional Office called upon Pakistani authorities to put an end to the practice of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions.

As part of these developments, Amnesty International’s social media platform also shared an accompanying photograph. The image was accompanied by details stating that Naushad Miandad was reported missing on July 31, 2023.

Important to highlight is the fact that Naushad, the son of Miandad, was apprehended by Pakistani forces at Absar Check Post in Balochistan’s Turbat area on July 31. Subsequent to this incident, his whereabouts have remained unknown.

Furthermore, Amnesty’s statement strongly emphasized the necessity for Pakistan to put a definitive halt to the recurring instances of enforced disappearances, secretive detentions, and arbitrary incarcerations.

Urgent calls were made upon authorities to promptly and unequivocally reveal the locations of individuals who have been subjected to involuntary disappearance, providing this crucial information to their concerned families without delay.

This plea comes in conjunction with the presentation of emblematic cases shedding light on this distressing issue, commemorating the observance of the International Day of Missing Persons.
